Boeing promised that the 737 Max would be an upgraded version of the 737. The adjustment of the newest aircraft would help the engine to burn fuel more efficiently, without drastically changing the original frame design. And resulting from it, a higher cruise-speed would allow more revenue passenger miles flown per day. The idea was to implement changes in a cost-effective way, which wouldn’t require additional training for the pilots. A larger and more powerful engine was installed.
