The study guide prototype is intended to make it easier for prospective Art in Context students to start their studies. My own experience as a first-semester student at the institute played a decisive role. When I read the questions from new names in the programme’s group chat, this experience seems to repeat itself: Many students come to Art in Context but don’t know how Art in Context works.
The two-part guide explains academic terminology in simple words, terminology that is communicated in an opaque and scattered manner. Additional tips and questions, displayed as margin notes in the booklet, are intended to make the concepts more tangible.

It has been over 30 years since the Central Reception Center for Asylum Seekers (ZAst) was set on fire by xenophobic people. Following an analysis of the situation after reunification, I trace the pogrom from today’s perspective through the documentary film “The Truth Lies in Rostock” (1993). In conversation with the artist and curator Óscar Mauricio Ardila Luna, who participated in the art competition (2016), and Johann Henningsen, the former project coordinator of the documentation center “Lichtenhagen im Gedächtnis“, I ask what Germany’s attempts at denazification in the form of memorials and monuments have brought us.
